Total Hip Replacement is well established treatment method to relieve pain from affected hip. It also significantly improves quality of life and mobility of patient.

In this procedure affected portions of joint i.e. Femoral head and acetabulum are replaced with artificial components to form new joint.

Average age at which THR is done in India is 52 yrs (ranging from 17 – 83 yrs). Though more common at older age, this procedure may be needed in younger age patient.

Avascular necrosis of femoral head is commonest indication (49%) for which total hip replacements are done in India. Other indications are osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis etc
