The Agra Etawah Toll Road Project serves as a prime exemplar of the critical role national highways play in facilitating seamless interstate movement of passengers and freight. These expansive road networks span the length and breadth of the nation, connecting federal and state government capitals, vital ports, railway junctions, border passages, and international thoroughfares.

The collaboration between the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and AE Tollway Private Limited (AETPL), an SPV (special purpose vehicle) under IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd., culminated in a concession agreement on September 1st, 2015. This agreement entails the construction, operation, and maintenance of the Agra Etawah Bypass NH 2 Project. For a duration of 24 years, post the specified timeline, the project remains under concession. During this period, the concessionaire has the authorization to levy the prescribed user fee on drivers.

The segment between Agra and Etawah, spanning 124.52 km along NH 2, forms an integral part of the Agra Etawah Bypass NH 2 Project. Through a build-operate-transfer (BOT) or design-build-finance-operate-transfer (DBFOT) framework, this stretch will be expanded from four to six lanes.
